Chapter Fourteen - All Things Must Die

Blood. That was the new paint in the city and it covered all. The city had grown quiet with the ceasing of the Isa and their hordes. Those who remained hid fearfully in the shadows, waiting for hope to arise. In the eerie quietness, screams could still faintly be heard in the distance, and some violently silenced just as quickly as they'd began. A certain alleyway was ablaze with shrieks and moans as a certain young girl, Selina, was pinned against a wall by a vicious Heronlover. Selina's arms were merely stumps now, and blood was beginning to soak through the heavy why bandages that stopped them up. Heron needed her to remain alive, but in great pain. Blood coated the bottom of her dress and around her waist, and her legs crossed, knees buckling as she failed to stand on her own. There was a rag tied around her mouth that kept her from making any noises that would alert anyone beyond the alley of her presence. And her blue hair was wild and her scalp mangled. Clearly Heron had violently ripped clumps of her hair straight from her head. She had a black eye that was swollen on the left side of her face and many bruises all across her exposed skin. Her dress itself was ripped and exposing parts of her body it hadn't before. Nearly her entire upper half was exposed, save for what needed to be covered up for the time being. Cuts and slashes and punctures embellished her form, and Heron held her steady as he ran a long needle through one of her cuts, stitching it up.

"Hold still!" Heron growled as she struggled. "I said hold still!" And he gave her an uppercut to the jaw, sending her head flying back against the wall of the alley. He then continued to stitch her up and with her newfound daze it was much easier. "I need to stitch you up so I can cut you up again. Can't have you bleed out all at once, now, can I? Besides, I promised Akira you wouldn't be able to walk."

"You're well past that, I think," Senzi chuckled behind him in the alley. She sat relaxed on a dumpster, her body displayed erotically in such a position. The grenade launcher lied next to her on the dumpster and she tapped it with her fingers in a bored fashion. Then, as Heron pulled away from Selina, the girl fell to the ground immediately and her eyes seemed to slowly close. Heron leaned against the dumpster and looked up at Senzi, who now twirled a bit of her soft blonde hair.

"I hope he's happy, that's all I want. Gonna prove myself as a worthy commander in lynching," he said, licking the long blood-coated needle he had used to stitch up Selina. "What now?" he asked, bored. "I don't like being bored."

"We wait for Akira," Senzi replied. "Did you forget? Today's the day..." she picked up her grenade launcher and made sure it was ready. "Today's the day his banishment expires... It could be any time now..."

The city was still quiet and the few people who still inhabited it had nailed boards and bars over their windows and doors, and the streets were empty. However, now their curious eyes had begun to peek out, for they knew the day has come. A suddenly with a flash of fury a great cluster of black energy swelled in the courtyard of the Open Palace. It was just above the great magnificent fountain that was in the crux of the courtyard. The black orb swelled and expanded and began letting off pulses of red energy, which caused the fountain to explode and the grass in the courtyard to immediately either and catch fire. A black fire began burning all life in the area and the trees began to dissolve into ash. Finally the orb burst and a swirling vortex of black smoke and energy dispersed through the air. A hideously tall shadow figure remained floating in the air where the orb was. Some of the ash in the air came down and molded together into black robes which then flew onto the figure. Akira's scarlet eyes opened and his hair flowed about as if he was underwater. His claws formed and his feet sculpted and finally his form was erect perfectly. By now people had begun to gather in the safe spots on the outskirts of the courtyard and watched as Akira floated high in the air, laughing.

"Where are you, Magistrates? Here I am! Come and get me!" he shouted with a voice far more demonic than ever, which boomed and echoed throughout the city as though it were magnified fifty times over. Finally, Akira caught glimpse of a shape flying down from the clouds, heading straight for him. "Haha! I will enjoy this... Slaim," Akira said in a low voice as the Magistrate stopped in the air just before him, Hammer in hand.

"You're a fool for coming back, Akira!" Slaim shouted at the top of his lungs.

"We'll see about that, my Magistrate..." Akira said, grinning. Slaim immediately raised his Hammer above his head and readied his arm to hurl a great force of magic at Akira. Finally he let his arm fly and the bolt of orange birthed. Nearly at the same time, Akira held up his palm and shot something else out of it, heading straight for Slaim.

Kaiel could hear the voice, the horrendous booming coming from the core of the city. And though he were on the outskirts, he knew it would not take long. He climbed out from his home, buried in rubble as it was, and Hammer in hand, looked up in the direction that the commotion was coming from. He still felt that it would make no difference in going after the Isa Lord, but it was far more tempting to go after him than to deal with the other problems. This was personal now. This was the man who turned the world against him. Kaiel would not soon easily forgive him and as he angrily gripped the handle of his Hammer, he felt the fury boiling in his heart. He began running and doing so as fast as he could, and finally he struck the ground with his Hammer with a great force and caused himself to be thrown into the air. Suddenly, from his back green light emerged and entangled in many strands, finally stitching together two great green wings that soared and took him high into the clouds until finally he was in sight of Akira. He stopped just as he hovered over the courtyard and stared in horror.

Slaim lied on the ground, his body catching fire from the burning grass. The civilians were screaming in a panic as the unholy Dark Lord Akira held Slaim's own Hammer, even as it singed him at the touch. The Hammer itself was slowly fading and Akira watched it turn to dust in his hands, slowly crumbling back onto the ground. He finally tossed the dust away and looked up at Kaiel, whose mouth was agape with shock and fear. Akira, smiling pointed at him with one long jagged claw, as if to signal that it was his turn. Kaiel shook his head frantically, "W-what?!? How! But the Magistrates are... are..."

"Immortal? Hah!" Akira asked. "Not to me, and not to us any longer!" He shouted. He outstretched his palm before himself and a long needle-like spike shot from it and he caught it with his hand just as it came from him. He held it up for Kaiel to see clearly, and it's malevolence was clear. It was a long transparent black spike with a reddish matter flowing actively inside of it. "Isn't it simply beautiful? A virus beyond anything we've seen before, capable of casting someone immediately to their death... even a Magistrate, it seems. I call it Conswela."

"But... but that's impossible!" Kaiel screamed. "Castula set her protective magical seal over us... We can't be killed by others!"

Akira gritted his teeth. "There are ways around everything you fool! You're so pathetic! Everything has a loophole, and nothing is absolute. Not even death. And the next milestone I plan to achieve in my new reign shall be to reverse death itself and bring back all those Isa who have been lost. I shall create my perfect world, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!" Akira shouted.

Kaiel readied his Hammer and a protective orb of green encompassed him. This would prevent the needle from touching him, he presumed. But it was all still so foreign to him, he had no idea what was going on or what he was doing. Maybe he should have stayed home after all. No, this wasn't the time for mentally bickering with himself. He had to kill Akira now, and end this once and for all. "We'll see about that," Kaiel answered. Akira then dashed the needle out, hurling it straight towards Kaiel. He dodged it, but it pierced his green bubble and sent it bursting in a fit of green sparks. "Damn," Kaiel said under gritted teeth. He then took this opportunity to fly straight towards Akira to pound him with his Hammer. He heard a loud bang. Did he do it?

It appeared the loud bang was the sound of his own body being deflected by Akira with a simple pulse sent out by his swinging arm. Akira shot many more spikes from his palm that Kaiel quickly and miraculously dodged. Akira's aim was ruthless and on-point. Kaiel felt like he was dodging the bullets of a god. How did he even manage it in the first place? Regardless, Akira continued to throw them, multiple at a time and with the speed of lightning. They sprouted all across his body and the long needles became like spikes to him. Kaiel couldn't touch him now.

"Dammit," Kaiel grunted as he retreated slightly. A thick black aura of energy had encompassed Akira by now and he was throwing needles left and right and up and down and straight and back. It was a hailstorm of virus needles. The Conswela bullets cut at Kaiel's clothes and he found it nearly impossible to dodge them all. A dark sweat broke out all over his body, yet he found himself ice cold. His pupils dilated with fear and every hair on his body seemed to tremble. Was this the moment he was to die? Was this it? He had never felt so challenged in all his life, and this was the final countdown. The civilians below were either cheering, shouting, or wailing. The community war torn and Kaiel was fearful of being slaughtered mercilessly in front of all of them. This was it. He had to give it everything he had.

He flung himself forward green rays flinging from his Hammer towards Akira and burning up the needles coming his way. Akira dodged each ray twice as fast as Kaiel could dodge the needles and the great beastly Isa floated forward. Suddenly, black energy gathered in two places behind him and compressed until two enormous bat-like wings spread behind Akira. A long and thick needle, long enough to be a sword arose in front of him, filled with the Conswela virus. He grabbed it in his hand and dashed forward, his eyes glowing crimson more red than pure blood. He swung the "sword" murderously at Kaiel, who guarded himself with his Hammer. Sparks let off every time the Hammer came in contact with the spike and for a time Akira was pressing down with his sword vertical while Kaiel, with all his strength, blocked with his Hammer horizontally and remained locked with the Isa in this state. They pushed and pushed, each trying to outdo the other.

"I've waited for this day for a long time," Akira said with a hellish voice.

"I thought it would never come," Kaiel rasped, feeling Akira growing stronger and stronger with each second. Two large horns had begun to sprout from Akira's head and kept growing and growing until they were enormous and foreboding. Kaiel could tell Akira was drawing immense power from the reactions of the people watching, and he knew that it would be no time at all before the Dark Lord had the sufficient power to finally end his life. Kaiel felt his heart pumped like it might spring from his chest, so much that felt as though it was electrifying within his body. But then time caught up with itself and Kaiel could clearly see that the electrifying sensation was not his heartbeat alone, but was also the feeling of Akira's spike running through his chest and filling his body with the painful, lightning-like virus. Kaiel watched as his Hammer fell to the ground, bursting into ash. His hands, raining blood, had been severed from his body in one simple slash and the Hammer bashed away from his grasp. With such swiftness Akira took away Kaiel's only defense and struck him dead-center.

The whole world grew silent for Kaiel and he only saw the soulless red eyes of Akira, watching him. His mouth was open, and he thought he might've been screaming, but he was silent. The scream was caught inside him, blocked from his throat by the spike itself. And then, viciously, the spike was ripped from his body and now coated in blood. Kaiel felt himself falling, but it was as if the whole world moved in slow motion. And no matter how hard he tried or may have wanted to, his wings would not obey him. Soon, the painful impact to the fire-coated ground made the world go black.
